Stag-Parkway and Partners Participate
in
Habitat for Humanity Project
|
|
(January 18th, 2008) – Following the 2008 Stag-Parkway Business Solutions Trade
Show in New Orleans, members of the Stag-Parkway team, supplier and dealer partners
joined together to participate in the Stag Cares program in conjunction with Habitat
for Humanity of New Orleans. The volunteers worked to construct a home in
The Musicians’ Village area of New Orleans’ Upper Ninth Ward.
Upon completion, the home will be presented to Schiniece Hinton, mother of two and
resident of the Upper Ninth Ward for over 33 years. She stated, “I’m glad
to be a homeowner in this program. It is very important for me to be a homeowner
for my kids and I would be the first in my family to become a homeowner. Hurricane
Katrina affected me in so many different ways. I lost everything, my kids
lost everything – but we still have each other and
that is all we need.”
According to Habitat for Humanity, The Musicians’ Village project was conceived
by Branford Marsalis and Harry Connick, Jr. and consists of homes constructed by
Habitat for Humanity in partnership with displaced New Orleans musicians and other
qualifying homeowner families. Its centerpiece will be the Ellis Marsalis
Center for Music, dedicated to music education and development of homeowners and
others who will live nearby, and named for the patriarch of the Marsalis clan, modern
jazz pioneer and native New Orleanian. The Musicians’ Village project marked
the beginning of Habitat for Humanity’s rebuilding program in New Orleans’ Upper
Ninth Ward.
Founded in 1976 by Millard and Linda Fuller, Habitat for Humanity International
has built more than 225,000 houses around the world, providing more than 1 million
people in more than 3,000 communities with safe, decent, affordable shelter.
